Choosing a Driving Instructor

All professions include members who are excellent, very good, good and those who are average or below. The same applies in the driving instruction industry. Most learner drivers who have little or no experience of driving will not know what to expect from a driving instructor who they are meeting for the first time as they have no yardstick to measure them by.

Word of mouth, websites and other forms of advertising will help determine how many individuals choose a driving school or driving instructor. However, a driving instructor who was highly rated by one individual may not be rated so highly by a brother, sister or friend. Therefore, we in TSM strongly recommend that no potential learner driver should pre-book a course of lessons with an instructor until they have had at least one or two lessons from that person. A candidate will then be in a position to assess whether he/she feels comfortable with the instructor before committing themselves to spending a substantial amount of money on lessons.

Finally, it should be noted that ‘big is not necessarily the best’, that the most expensive are not necessarily the best and that the cheapest are not necessarily the worst. Do not always be impressed by assertions of percentage pass rates. For example, what does a 92% pass rate mean? Does it mean that 92% of all students pass on the first attempt (most unlikely!) or that 92% of all students pass after several attempts. Be sceptical of such assertions!! Shop around, ask your friends and keep your ear to the ground before making a decision.

Mick from Temple School of Motoring is a brilliant instructor, he is the nicest man you could meet, so patient and really helped me pass my test after a good few fails, he gave me the confidence to pass, I cannot recommend him enough.

After getting lessons from another driving school I wasn't a very confident driver but with lessons from TSM I started to understand and enjoy driving more. The instruction at TSM is really second to none and I most certainly would recommend them time and time again. TSM raised my standard of driving and prepared me for the test in such a way that all I had to do on the day of my test was sit in and drive and I passed first time. =)

I passed my driving test first time after doing a course of lessons with Donald. I highly recommend Temple - Donald was very patient and really took the time to explain why as well as how when learning.

I passed my test this week thanks to the thorough and methodical instruction of Don. Before contacting Temple School I had failed the test twice and did not feel at all comfortable or confident behind the wheel. My driving was erratic and jerky. On my first lesson, Don focused in on my problem areas and really expained to me how to eradicate certain bad habits and how to drive more smoothly and calmly. By the end of the lesson I was honestly driving like a different person. I would highly recommend Don to anyone looking to pass the test. I'd had many lessons from instructors from other schools before but none was able to help me clean up my driving. Don's approach is so successful because he gives you the tools you need to feel in control both physically and psychologically. If you're a nervous driver who does not feel you'll ever get the hang of it, call Temple and ask for Don!

I consider myself extremely priviledged to have learned to drive with TSM. I was lucky enough to have lessons with Don, who is an extremely experienced driving instructor with the all-important ability to put you at ease immediately. You are really taught how to drive, not just pass your test, which is the way it should be. I would certainly recommend TSM to any and all who are learning to drive. If possible, ask for Don!

I found Neil to be very encouraging and he helped me to feel completely competent behind the wheel. Neil was my second instructor, having already received lessons from another driving school. I found Neil to be a brilliant teacher and noticed improvements instantly. He is a brilliant teacher and was very easy to get on with. I felt very comfortable behind the wheel in a very short time. There is no doubt that it is primarily down to him that I passed my test. I would recommend him to anyone learning how to drive.
